Why Are Nontoxic Alternatives Important To Me?My name is Jolene Snyder. Nontoxic Alternatives are important to me because I want to help other people live longer healthier lives. While growing up, I remember helping my mother preserve organic vegetables from our family's farm. My Mennonite heritage taught me much about natural healthy living. My mother baked most of our bread, sewed many of my clothes and hung most of the laundry outside to dry. I remember thinking it was a little silly how she washed and reused the plastic sandwich bags for packing my father's lunch box. Those were simpler times when we wasted less and perhaps placed more value on the things we had. By today's standards, we may have seemed poor, but I always remember having an abundance of fresh farm food on the table along with many other things I later came to appreciate. It wasn't till a few years ago that I realized that many of the personal care products, household care products and foods that I now purchased from the store for my family, now contained numerous toxic chemicals and preservatives. I became increasingly concerned that my family and other families were being put at risk for cancer and other serious health issues due to these chemical toxins. I decided to do more research about environmental issues that may be affecting public health. Before long, I realized that I could not remain silent about the information I had learned. Why I Built This Site:I was shocked when I began to discover that many of the products that I was using in my home were riddled with toxic chemical ingredients.How could I not be aware of this when I thought I was being so conscientious about my family's health? Why weren't other people more aware of this issue? I think it is because the information has not been readily available for us as consumers to read. We tend to assume that the FDA is going to protect us and that companies will take responsibility for marketing safe products. I believe there are many people out there who like me, would like to know about this information. My hope is to help other people learn how they can avoid these environmental toxins and live healthier longer lives. My goal is to:
