Today marks the 40th anniversary of Earth Day!

April 22, 1970 marked the beginning of the modern environmental movement. You may be wondering...have things improved in 40 years? The answer is "Yes". Some positive environmental laws have been enacted, but there is still much work to be done!

What I find the most shocking, is that one of the largest sources of environmental pollution still affecting our health every day, occurs right in our own homes!

The Environmental Working Group (Dec 2009) contracted five laboratories in the U.S., Canada and Europe. Their independent tests revealed up to 232 toxic chemicals in the umbilical cord blood samples of newborn babies. Can you believe it...newborn babies have already been exposed to hundreds of toxic chemicals?

What Can We Do? We can start by getting rid of products that we already know contain toxic contaminants. This is your first important step towards protecting your family's health>

You must eliminate dangerous products that could be putting your family's health at risk! Keep reading below to learn how to get started!

Step One...Eliminate Toxic Products From Your Home

You should start by ridding your home of toxic chemical household cleaners! Untested chemicals found in common cleaning supplies can cause breathing difficulties, asthma, chemical sensitivities, hormones dysfunctions and even cancer. While we know these chemicals can cause harm to your family, we also know that they can cause harm to our public water supplies and our soil.

I do a lot of my house cleaning with just baking soda, vinegar and lemon juice. There are however times, when I feel I need something that has a little more cleaning power!

Step ll...Learn How to Choose Safe Products

You must educate yourself on which chemicals are unsafe and start choosing safe personal care products which are non toxic!

I recently found a book to help me sort out all those confusing chemicals labels on personal care products at the store. I have started taking this book with me when I go to shopping. As I browse through the toiletry isles, I use this book to help me look up the ingredients of products I might want to purchase!

The book is called Dying To Look Good by Dr. Christine H. Farlow!

Warning! Cancer-causing ingredients have been found in make-up, shampoo, deodorant, hair dye, nail polish, sunscreen and more... If you buy cosmetics or personal care products without reading and understanding the ingredients on the label, you ARE most likely using products with ingredients that cause cancer, and are skin irritants. Learn how to protect yourself from the many harmful ingredients in the products you use every day.
